When it comes to building a healthier lifestyle, we may have great intentions to optimize our health. However, we seem to rely on motivation to put these changes into practice.
When we feel motivated, work seems easier, effort feels lighter, and we can tolerate uncertainty more confidently. Motivation can help us overcome obstacles that would have held us back.
So, where is the motivation? Honestly, sometimes, it’s just not there.
Motivation is generally the highest at the start of any change, but it often fizzles out. It is not something we can rely on for long term results.
Instead of motivation, try building momentum.
Here is where the power of small steps leading to lasting changes begins. As you do the small step repeatedly, it becomes easier to get it going every time. As you keep it going, you start to see progress… the very thing that might motivate you!
Remember the 2 minute rule we talked about previously? We can apply it here.
Next time you feel unmotivated, remember momentum. Get up and get started, for just 2 minutes, and then do it again the next day. And the next day.
Soon enough, you might feel more motivated and a bit closer towards your health goals!
