Jumping right in this week to more ways to keep healthy habits while traveling. If you missed part I, check it out here.

We can still have a great time and enjoy our favourite foods, while making healthy choices along the way. Here are three more tips:

  • 80/20 Approach
    • 80% of the time we can practice healthy habits that support our health and goals. 20% of the time, enjoy without overthinking. Be present and feel your best!
  • Sip Smart
    • For every non-water beverage you enjoy (pop, juice, alcohol, coffee, etc), have at least 1 glass of water. This can help you feel less restricted, more hydrated, and curbs cravings that come from being dehydrated!
  • Light First Bites (aka preloading)
    • Before a larger meal, have a low-calorie (<100 cal/cup), high fibre food, such as vegetables, fruit, salad or soup. This helps feel fullness sooner, aids digestion, and reduces overall calorie intake at the meal.

Remember, being mindful and aware of our choices is part of our health and a little indulgence does not have to derail us. This doesn’t need to change just because we go traveling. Connect with food when you travel, thinking about culture, moments, and experiences, not just meals or calories.

Stay tuned for the final post in this series next week!
