Yesterday was Calgary’s 3rd Walk With A Doc event! Thankfully we enjoyed sunshine, no rain, and even a little warmth! So many of you came out to get your steps in and prioritize your health– it is a privilege to walk together.

Every month’s walk starts with a health talk, and June’s topic is “Nutrition”.

Nutrition is one of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine.

More specifically, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine recommends a whole-food, plant-predominant (WFPP) eating pattern.

This means eating more fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, legumes, and healthy whole grains.

There are a few other eating patterns that have fantastic health benefits and can combat chronic disease:

  • The Mediterranean Diet for heart health
  • The DASH Diet to manage high blood pressure
  • The MIND diet (combining the above two) for brain health
  • The Portfolio Diet for lowering bad cholesterol (LDL)

All of these eating patterns have one big thing in common: Eat More Plants! They also all promote eating more fibre and reducing intake of saturated fats, added sugars, and sodium. And they all agree that water is the healthiest beverage.
Next month’s health topic features another pillar of Lifestyle Medicine. Join us on Sunday July 27th, 2025 to learn more and get your steps in! RSVP here.
