The other day a client was talking to me about ice cream sandwiches. They were struggling in life with some recent stressors and they were using ice cream sandwiches to cope.

Instead of telling them to stop eating ice cream entirely, or switch it out for vegetables, I figured we could take a different approach.

Maybe they could choose mini ice cream sandwiches instead. Now, does Lifestyle Medicine prescribe ice cream for healthy nutrition? No. Would Obesity Medicine recommend ice cream for weight loss? Of course not.

But if we are already eating ice cream sandwiches anyway, and even beating ourselves up over it, then some progress is certainly better than none.

When we are trying to be healthier and change our habits, any step in the right direction counts. Switching out more ice cream for less still contributes to weight loss and healthier living.

Remember, this is a lifestyle, not a diet. Small changes can lead to lasting results.

Let’s practice lifestyle medicine together!
